Vietnam is well known for being a treasure house to its rich and diversified ethnic craft skills, a major source of cultural pride and income.

Many craft skills have their origins in other traditions; Chinese, Indian, Malay, European. Over the centuries they have evolved into something distinctly Vietnamese. 

Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city with a thousand-year history, boasts 36 streets whose name begins with the word “Hang” meaning “Craft”. Rural areas have numerous crafts village, each having its own know-how, which has been passed down from generation to generation. 

The richness and diversity of ethnic Vietnamese craft can also be seen in many galleries of Vietnam. Advanced skills like embroidery, batik, appliqué work are all part of their culture.
